No shame in doing touristy things. When it’s on the bucket list, it’s on!
1. Take a stroll on Hollywood Boulevard.
A trip to Los Angeles would not be complete without a visit to the world-famous Hollywood Boulevard, home to Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.
We’re not gonna judge if you have to literally find the star of your favourite celebrity!
And when you get to have a peak of the mountain, you will see that famous sign.
Los Angeles will be packed with people in costumes. They typically will ask for a tip if you want to take photos with them (hello, America!). Francis had to do one. Tourist-levels up’d by 30 points.
2. Drive a Ferrari and Lamborghini and take it to the Hollywood sign.
You will notice a parade of luxury cars on Hollywood Boulevard and their marketing totally worked on us (or on Francis). So we had to each rent one.
So, if you have a couple hundred dollars to spare, go for your life! Frances had to tame the kid coming out of Francis.
And away we went. Francis on the Lamborghini.
Frances on the Ferrari.
And we sure did take it to the top of the mountain where the Hollywood sign was at.
3. Visit the Universal Studios Hollywood.
We decided to wear our matching “All Blacks” shirts; things you do when you’re young.
We decided to visit the Universal Studio, which is a working film studio and a theme park rolled into one.
Tip: Allow for a full day to visit this film studio/theme park. We heard it’s a crowd drawer all year round.
To maximise your visit, grab a VIP Ticket or equivalent such as one with a ‘Skip-the-Line’ option.
And if you’re a Harry Potter fan, you’re in luck.
Had to try them Butterbeers.
Get on one of the film rides that will take you to film settings.
And you will see settings, such as the legendary BatesMmotel from Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho:
…or Grinch who stole Christmas
…or War of the Worlds.
4. Drop by the Staples Center in Downtown LA.
This was a Francis suggestion, so we had to check out the Staples Centre, which is home to LA’s sporting teams like the LA Lakers and Clippers of the NBA, LA Sparks from the WNBA and LA Kings from the NHL.
You will see statues of Magic Johnson…
…Oscar de la Hoya,
…and Wayne Gretzsky.
5. Go on a Hop-on, Hop-off bus.
As with any travel, we like to start early. Get in before the crowds.
It’s a chilled, economic way to get to the places you like.
It will go around Sunset Strip, Beverly Hills, Melrose Avenue and stops in Farmers Market for a quick bite.
Sometimes you gotta do touristy things, especially if it’s your first time in the city and you only have two days!
